Aloha Edward! I love the way you express yourself. You've gotta make it to TJs next time.
I was just thinking of cultural differences yesterday. Even the slightest thing in the US about how in Hawaii washer fluid for a car can be water but in Michigan where I was raised it has to washer fluid to not freeze. Anywho, totally irrelevant to that, I'm about to be traveling a bunch and want to invest in a travel friendly tech tool to read and write. I was thinking the Remarkable 2 but now considering the Supernote. What's your favorite part about the experience of the Supernote?
Awesome Jen, hope you enjoy your travels. For me, I heard the Supernote is great for both reading and writing which is perfect for my use case, and turned out to be true. I no longer bring my kindle as I just read and write on the Supernote. Also, I broke the top of my pen soon after I got it and Supernote just sent me a new one straight away, so the customer service was pretty good too. Definitely happy with my choice!
Yes, you would make it as a travel writer. I've been to NYC twice but your stories make up a different NY than I've experienced (besides the general rudeness and insistence of waiters if you don't tip). It's personal, it's different than you'd expect, it's sensory, it's non cliché... I loved it!
Musical reminiscences of the song by Sting and, of course of the greatest Christmas song ever, by the Pogues.
In 20 years of living in NYC, I never did adjust to the summer heat and sweatiness. And it is verifiable - There are summer days in New York when the heat and humidity are worse than in Florida.
NYC has changed a lot and when I return now, I feel a constant frisson of possible danger, like a barely perceptible rumble of thunder in a distant cloud.
I would avoid those street vendor hot dogs (aka dirty water dogs) at all costs. But I would definitely go to Dunkin Donuts, a favorite of New Englanders, where it is affectionately known as "Dunkies". And who can resist those orange and pink cups?
The ever-changing tipping culture continues to challenge even Americans.
Very interesting read! Makes a lot of sense, even from what I briefly saw. Looks like I was staying right on the other side of Central Park from where you lived , I was on 86th right by the park. I never got into a DD but I did notice they have Dunkin donuts coffee in the 7/11s too.
By the way I’m glad we agree on the greatest ever Christmas song. For me there’s no competition. I saw The Pogues live twice, on neither occasion was Shane McGowan remotely sober 😂
Welcome to America :)
This is an interesting perspective and observation.
"The (continental) Europeans, on the other hand, would probably let you die of dehydration, albeit with panache." made me laugh out loud
Glad I made you laugh Minh!! :)

Is the pen easily breakable if just a bit of a learning curve to get used to using? I'm feeling tempted to try this out!
Nope, quite resilient I just did a silly thing 👀 I think it's worth a go, but they are not cheap!
Sadly realized this tool doesn't ship to the US. I'll experiment with it someday :)
Are you sure it doesn't Jen? My link above is EU only, so make sure to check the actual Supernote site!
This was a joy read! Cracked me up many times and made me tad pensive too - so rare to blend both so beautifully!
Thanks Lakshmi – glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic work Edward. This brightened up my day!
Thank you India!!
Great job with this essay!
Thanks Sadia! I wasn’t sure about writing it as it’s a little different but now I’m glad I did :)

Thanks Monica! It seems like there are many NYCs , I loved it too
My last sentence is about your writing, not about NY!! 😄
😂 Now I got you. Merci 😊
It's really entertaining to see your takes on the classic American brands. You have got to go to dunks and Trader Joe's next time.
Thanks Will, definitely a good excuse for another trip across the pond

I wrote an essay a while ago about why we left New York that you might find interesting. https://drakegreene.substack.com/p/why-we-left-new-york?r=1s5vc1
